Today is the gathering day, it is recommended that you arrive in Zhangye, Gansu this afternoon. Zhangye has 1 airport (Ganzhou Airport) and 2 railway stations (Zhangye Xizhang, Zhangye Station), you can choose the most convenient way to arrive. A pre-trip briefing will be held in the evening, and the team leader will explain the precautions and hiking skills for desert hiking, and collect activity supplies at the same time.

Transportation strategy reference:

1. Zhangye City has Ganzhou Airport, and there are direct flights to Zhangye from Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an and other places;

2. Zhangye has convenient railway transportation, with more than a dozen trains departing from "Lanzhou West Station" to "Zhangye West Station" every day, about 3 hours by car. You can arrive in Lanzhou first, and then take the train to Zhangye.

D2: Zhangye - Alxa Right Banner - Oriental Circuit - Dashazao Lake - Celigeji - Junjigede Two-color Lake (cross-country vehicle crossing)

▍Driving distance: 160 km by bus + 100 km by off-road vehicle

▍Meals: Breakfast included in the hotel, Inner Mongolia specialties at noon, farmhouse dishes at desert herders‘ home at night

▍Accommodation: Desert herders’ home (standard room, private bathroom) Drive from Zhangye to Alxa Right Banner in the morning, take an off-road vehicle into the desert after lunch (3 people per vehicle), and go to Dashazao Lake, Celigeji and other attractions in turn. Arrive at Junjigede (Two-color Lake) in the afternoon. Bring a sandboard to enjoy sandboarding and enjoy the sunset in the desert.

Warm reminder: The Badain Jaran sand dunes are quite undulating. Although we have upgraded to three people per car to ensure comfort, it is possible that some people will suffer from motion sickness while traveling through the desert. It is recommended that people who suffer from severe motion sickness prepare motion sickness patches in advance and do not eat too greasy or full breakfast.

D3: Junjigede - Dagtu Pink Lake - Alattu (15km hike)

▍ Hiking: about 15km, climbing +500m/-500m

▍ Driving time: none

▍ Meals: breakfast at herdsmen’s house, road meals provided on the way, dinner at herdsmen’s house

▍ Accommodation: desert herdsmen’s house (standard room, private bathroom)

After breakfast, we will pack our equipment and start our desert hike. The team leader will lead you into the core area deep in the Badain Jaran Desert. The sand dunes here are tall. Teammates should not open up routes and walk alone without authorization, as it is easy to lose the direction. But don’t worry, the logistics support vehicle will follow us all the way to escort us.

When you first start hiking in the desert, don’t rush for success. Slowly adjust your speed and rhythm, maintain your physical strength, and carefully figure out the desert hiking skills. Through your feet, you can deeply feel the difference of Badain Jaran.

We will take a break for lunch. We have prepared a road meal for everyone. After the break, we will come to the focus of today: the heart of the desert, the heart of the earth - "Red Lake".

The area of "Red Lake" is not large, but the color of the lake changes with the seasons. When it is pink, it is like peach blossoms, and when it is red, it is like Danxia. It matches the soft curves of the desert, like a ruby sprinkled on the skin of a girl. You can take photos and check in, and then go to the desert herdsman's home today to stay, and continue to shoot the starry sky at night.

D4: Alatu - Hudugejilin - Zarat - Fairy Peak - Badain Jaran Temple (18km hike)

▍ Hiking: about 18km, climbing +500m/-500m

▍ Driving time: none

▍ Meals: breakfast at herdsmen’s home, road meals provided on the way, celebratory dinner at herdsmen’s home

▍ Accommodation: Desert herdsmen’s home (standard room, private bathroom)

After breakfast, we set off and passed two desert lakes along the way: Hudugejilin and Zarat, and then crossed Fairy Peak, where the scenery is beautiful. Standing on Fairy Peak, you will see the beautiful scenery of the temple lake, and the tiredness of desert hiking will be swept away.

After resting at Fairy Peak, we headed to tonight’s camp - Suminjilin, commonly known as Miaohaizi, named after the 260-year-old Badain Jaran Temple. It is one of the few residential areas in the Badain Jaran Desert. The former rough houses have long been turned into desert tourism reception points, where you can see backpackers and off-roaders from all over the world.

D5: Badain Jaran Temple - Climb the "Desert Everest" Birutu (3km hike) - Barun Yikri Shuanghaizi - Desert Heaven Lake - Badan Lake - Alxa Right Banner - Zhangye disband

▍ Driving distance: 120km by off-road vehicle + 160km by bus

▍ Meals: breakfast at herders' home, Mongolian specialties at noon, dinner at your own expense

▍ Accommodation: None

In the morning, take an off-road vehicle to the "Desert Everest" climbing site and climb the Desert Everest while the weather is cool. Birutu Peak is the highest sand mountain in the world, with an altitude of 1,611 meters and a relative height difference of more than 500 meters, which is more than 70 meters higher than the highest peak in the Sahara Desert.

After getting off the desert, take an off-road vehicle out of the desert, passing Barun Yikri Shuanghaizi, Damo Tianchi, Badan Lake and other scenic spots along the way, then arrive at the entrance of the scenic area, change to a bus, arrive at Alashan Youqi at noon, and go to Zhangye to send off the station and airport after lunch.

Warm reminder: On the day of the group disbanding, it is expected to arrive at Zhangye West Station around 16:00 and arrive at Zhangye Airport at 17:00. It is recommended to book a high-speed train after 17:00 or a flight after 18:30.
